The Coup and the Prince is one of those books that just randomly happened. No planning occurred prior to my starting to write it, rather I instead had this crazy thought: what if one of my characters swears a lot and is a bit crude? Longtime readers know my characters don't tend to speak like that. Sometimes that's because the book is YA or the characters are younger, sometimes it's because the characters simply never learned to swear. Not that I have anything against people who swear, I just hadn't had the opportunity to write a character with that vocabulary; I wondered what a character I wrote who swore a lot would be like. The people in my life who swear the most all spent time in the military, and that's where I got the idea for a country recovering from a military coup. Aiden, one of the main characters, is from the guard and he swears. He's crude, he's rude, and I had a ton of fun trying to stretch my writing wings to create him. The rest of the story sprang into life around him and I'm really pleased with the results. The Coup and the Prince comes out in ebook on May 17th at most major retailers, but you can get your copy today at NSP: https://ninestarpress.com/product/the-coup-and-the-prince/ I hope you like it!
