News: Giveaway and Writing

  • Dragon Soldier is coming out March 8th and right now you can get it for a 15% discount at LT3.  It's also up for LT3's monthly giveaway on Goodreads.  Just leave a comment to enter:

  • In case you missed my earlier post, Dragon Soldier also has an excerpt up.  It's a nice chunk from the first chapter and if you're aching over the semi-cliffhanger Dragon Detective ended in, this will alleviate that: https://www.lessthanthreepress.com/excerpt-dragon-soldier/

  • I'm still tapping away at The Sentinel's Prophesy.  I've written about 1k words today and I think the story's coming along nicely.  There's a repetitive section in the first chapter I need to go back and fix, but right now I'm trying to work on the future parts of the story.  My main character has finally started growing, the romance is blossoming, and the set up for the big confrontation has begun.  I still have at least 10k words more to write and am hoping the rest of the story comes along smoothly.

  • In order to push my stalled muse, I went and reread some of my older, languishing stories.  One of the ones I reread was my superhero story.  It's a weird sort of anti-hero story and I do like what I've written so far, except for one very important factor: the romance is a bit sudden, without what would normally be very necessary build-up.  I'm trying to decide if I need to go back and rework it.  Since it's an integral aspect to the story I can't move forward with the rest of the book until it's fixed.  It's also possible that I don't need to rework the romance.  I could add in a bit of drama about them jumping into bed so quickly instead, which will add an interesting bit of tension to the middle of the story, but I'm still worried that the choppiness of it in the beginning might throw some readers off.

  • The other story I looked at was Ink, and I really, really like what I've written.  It's snarky with enough humor that it feels light despite some rather horrible history one of the characters experienced.  I'm a little concerned that I might bother some religious folks, given that in the first scene Lucifer feels up Jesus.  Since Jesus holds his own in a properly pious way, I'm hoping it's not too offensive.  The problem with this story is I haven't figured out what's next.  Inky and Lucifer have gone through the proper introductions, the bad guy has been foreshadowed, and I have absolutely no idea what the next step might be.  I know there needs to be mayhem at Lucifer's court and the bad guy has to do bad things, but I'm blanking on how to get there.  Only once I figure that out will this story begin moving forward again.

February Goals: Results

2/29/2016

I didn't do too badly in February.  I got a little off track with writing some new stuff, but overall I think I got a lot done.  Here's how I did:
  1. Editing. The first round of edits for Dragon Detective was returned to LT3.  I received the second round of edits for Magnified too late in the month to finish by today, but I will have them done soon.

  2. Supernatural Consultant.  Dragon Soldier is complete and I've submitted it to LT3.  Dragon Adventure and Dragon Home have both been submitted to LT3 as well.  I hope to hear whether they like them soon.  I've also poked at Dragon Spy at bit and it's coming along nicely.  Alloy's first book also has a large chunk of planning completed, but I won't start writing it until Lumie's story is complete, which might require multiple books.

  3. Justified.  I have completely edited and formatted Justified and I'm really happy with it.  I'm in a bit of a conundrum about whether to submit it and could use some advice.

  4. Writing.  I did a lot of writing this month, although not exactly in the stories I had hoped to focus on.  My Coliseum story is starting to come along and I've resurrected an old story about an incubus called Ink.  Both are very interesting to write, and I didn't mind working on them, but I would have preferred to focus on my works in progress instead of starting something new.  Still, I can't complain about writing no matter what the story.

News: What I'm Working On

  • I have finished writing Dragon Soldier.  I'm really happy with the final battle scene and I think the romance ratio is right on point.  The plan is to have Soldier ready to submit by the end of the month, so I've set it aside to rest and will pick it back up to edit and format in a few weeks.

  • Dragon Adventure is the next task on my to do list.  It's supposed to be a short story of only 10k words and I have the plot planned out.  All I have to do is get it all onto paper.  I can write 9k in a week, so hopefully I'll also have this story completed soon.

  • Instead of editing Justified, which is one of my goals for this month, I've continued working on my Coliseum Story.  It feels a little jumpy to me, but that's the style of story the characters are calling for so I'm rolling with it.  I'm about to introduce the dragon in the story, so things are really about to get interesting!

  • I have also started writing a story called Ink.  This is a really old story, one that I started and stopped working on before Finding the Wolf was even a glimmer in my eye.  For some reason I got the inspiration to restart it and couldn't help working on it for a few days.  It's a fun little story about Lucifer and and incubus in Hell and I hope that this time it doesn't fade away before I get it completed.
