Only one more week to go at my summer job. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. The good news is that I did get the Microsoft Word app to work on my phone so I was actually able to get some writing done. I would have liked to do more, but I can't be disappointed with the progress I was able to make given the difficult circumstances.

Goal number one, plain and simple, is to survive the job. It is difficult for so many reasons, not the least of which is the fact that to my employers I'm just a faceless body they can underpay for far too much work. Okay, rant over. Anyway, my writing time has really dipped down because of the crazy hours. I've discovered the Microsoft Word app for my phone and am hoping I'll be able to sneak in some extra time during my break at work. This goals list is more hope than actual belief I'll complete any of it, but you never know.
I had a lot of trouble sticking to my goals last month. My muses were all over the place for some reason. Hopefully I'll be able to stay focused this month. There's plenty of writing to be done. Here's my June Goals:

One of the things I started doing in 2014 was posting my monthly goals. It's worked really well, so I figured I might try doing the same thing for the entire year. Here is how I did in 2014. Look for my 2015 goals to come out in a few days!

Winter break is on its way! I hope everyone who celebrates Christmas is enjoying the holiday season. Hanukkah actually overlaps with Christmas this year, so I get to feel somewhat included in the fun! The upcoming Winter and New Years breaks mean that my job will be closed for two weeks. That's a lot of extra writing time, so I've written a slightly larger goals list than usual in the hope that I'll have a lot of extra time to get things done.

That's right, my writing projects have gone off the rails. I have no idea why I've chosen to work on Kelpie Blue all of a sudden, but I've written over 7k words so far with no sign of stopping. My goals list this month was simple: finish The Oracle's Sprite, work on Ground of Insurrection, and choose a neglected story to work on. I finished the first one, have made some progress on the second, and I thought I had fulfilled the third with Dragon Consultant. For the rest of the month I was going to expand on that success by continuing to work on GoI while also starting the next books in the Oracle Series, The Oracle's (Water) and The Sentinel's Prophesy, as well as the next book in the Supernatural Consultant Series, Dragon Detective. I did stay focused for a little bit. I realized that The Oracle's (Water) needed to be restarted from scratch so I put that aside to fix up later. I read through The Sentinel's Prophesy and added a little here and there. I even added the beginning of the difficult transition scene in GoI, which is quickly coming to a close. I also got most of the plot worked out and 1k words written in Dragon Detective. Then, for some strange reason I decided to reopen Kelpie Blue. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love Kelpie Blue. It a challenge to write since I've never used fae as characters before. I'm also adding in journal entries to help flesh out the story, which adds another difficult dimension. My main characters are so much fun to write, particularly Blue, a Kelpie who doesn't think linearly and calls Brin, the love interest and my other MC, a snack. I have been hoping to work on this story again for a while, but have been distracted by other stories with more pressing deadlines. I'm happy to have picked it back up, but I honestly don't understand why now. Why not two weeks ago when I read through it and instead picked up Dragon Consultant? I'm hoping to hit on some deep psychological reasoning as to why I'm stuck on some perfectly wonderful stories that I want to already have published. If I can figure out why Ge-Mi, another story that I can't wait to have in my readers' hands, is sitting stagnant while Dragon Consultant and Kelpie Blue are practically writing themselves I might solve my writer's block. Unfortunately, I think the answer might be an easy one, rather than a meaningful one: I know what happens next in Kelpie Blue, but I have no idea in Ge-Mi. I do have the overall plots of both stories planned out. I know that A has to happen and then C so that when B is finally explained it all makes sense. However, in Kelpie Blue I also have some of the finer details worked through. I know that Blue has to walk here and Brin has to talk to this person all so that C builds into a proper plot point. I'm missing those finer details in Ge-Mi and until I plan them out it will continue to sit stagnant on my computer. I don't know when I figured out all those details for Kelpie Blue. Maybe while I was working on Dragon Consultant my brain was remembering the read-through I had previously done on KB and picking out those missing bits so when I picked up KB again I had something to write. For whatever reason, Kelpie Blue is starting to take shape as a real, and very interesting, story. It's floating around the 15k words mark at the moment, which isn't even the halfway point. There's still a long way to go and a lot more writing that has to happen, but I'm excited that this story is progressing again.
