News: Rejection and Fighting off Writer's Block

  • Dreamspinner Press did not accept Third Time's The Charm for their Juicy Bits anthology.  :'(   Rejection's never fun, but since it's always a learning experience I can never complain about it.  Magnified was rejected by LT3 and look at what it's since grown in to!  Now I have to decide what to do with Third Time's.  It's too short to resubmit elsewhere.  Do I try to write a part two to make it long enough?  Or, should I release it as a free story?  Would LT3 take it as a freebee, or do I need to delve into the intricacies of cover art and formatting?  Should I try self publishing?  There are too many options!!!  Does anyone have any suggestions?

  • On the writing front I am currently fighting off the bite of writer's block.  It's not that I'm stuck, it's that I need the next bit of important plot in all of my stories.  I need to build up to an action sequence in Magnified, but since I don't actually know what action is about to happen how can I?  In The Oracle's Golem I'm trying to decide if the plot would function better from two different perspectives.  Ge-Mi needs a touch more oomph to carry it to the next big romance scene and If A Butterfly Don't Fly won't be flying anywhere without a ton more research.  In desperation, I've dusted off The Red Apple Witch, a fairytale I've been working on for ages and haven't had the motivation to write the last 5k that's been sitting untouched in my head for months.  Finishing it and thereby getting it off my to-do list might galvanize my brain into breaking free of its funk!  It's worth a try, at least.

  • Rocking Hard Volume 2 is available for pre-order.  Don't miss your chance to get a 15% discount today.  My story, My Truest Love, is in there.

My story for that anthology was rejected too. >_> I'm going to self-publish it as a free short story once I get time to go through it and make a cover for it. It's actually quite cool to be able to do everything myself. ^_^

It would definitely be cool to do it by myself, but I would prefer to focus on my writing than on cover design. Covers are not one of my strengths. When I get a moment to read through it I'm going to see if I can get it long enough for LT3 to sell it. If that doesn't happen then I'll ask LT3 if they want to support a free story or I'll follow you into self-publishing it.

If you do decide on self-pub, I'm available to do cover if you like. I love tinkering with photoshop. ^_^

@T.T. Kove I really appreciate that! I've actually decided to see what LT3 would be able to do with it first. They know how to properly format the document and have the software to create all the file types, unlike me. They also have the advantage of already having connections with all the major book sellers, which means I wouldn't have to post it everywhere on my own.

If they can't or won't take my story on I will absolutely contact you. I'm available for beta reading if you'd like an extra pair of eyes to look over your story.
