News: I'm Still Here

9/10/16

Despite my needing to take some time off from writing, things continue to progress with all my stories.  Here's an update on how things are going:
  • Magnified was released on September 7th and so far has been getting great reviews.  Thank you to everyone that purchased a copy.  I really hope you enjoyed it!

  • Cinder-Elle, my fairytale short story from Fairytales Slashed Volume 4, is out of print.  I have some plans for this story, so look for it to appear on my to-do list again.

  • Speaking of stories going out of print soon, Cleanly Wrong, my story from the Bestiary collection will be going out of print at the end of September.  I'm hoping to polish and resubmit this story, but it may be a while before I can get my act together and make that happen.  Bloody Kiss, my story from the Proud to be a Vampire collection and Jack O'Lantern's Grin, my story from the Halloween Rentboy's collection will both be going out of print in October.  Bloody Kiss might return as part of a larger series, but don't hold me to that.  Jack O'Lantern's Grin will not be returning, so get your copies before they're gone.

  • I have also been getting a lot of editing accomplished.  The first round of edits for Ner Li and Ge-Mi: Part One and the second round for The Case of the Wandering Wolves and Dragon Soldier are back with LT3, as well as a final proof read for Dragon Detective (out on October 19th).  I have the second pass of edits for Elemental Ride sitting in my inbox that I will start working on soon.

News: Where Has This Month Gone?

7/25/2016

7/25/16
  • I swear, July just started.  It was literally just the first week of July an hour ago.  Why the heck is my calendar telling me it's actually the last week instead?  I can't believe how quickly this month has flown past and how little I've been able to accomplish this entire time.  I thought I still had plenty of time to finish my goals, but it looks like that's not going to happen.  That's not good; I'll have to work even harder next month.

  • Magnified is out on pre-order at LT3 and posted on Goodreads.  Make sure to check it out both places because I know you're going to love it when it comes out on September 7th.

  • I received edits from the proof reader for Magnified yesterday.  It's all simple fixes that can be time consuming, but they need to be done.  Since Magnified is coming out soon, I'm focusing on getting those completed ASAP before returning to the rest of the edits I'm still working on.  The Case of the Wandering Wolves is being stubborn, but I'm slowly making progress.  I also received the edits for Ge-Mi: Part One.  I have a bit of an issue with passive tense, which I knew about beforehand, but I apparently didn't apply any of that knowledge to Ge-Mi so there's a lot of 'was' to fix in the edits.  There's still a good bit to get done in both sets of edits, so I'm going to keep on working and I'll hopefully have them back to LT3 soon.

News: Lots of Edits

7/8/16
  • This past week has been all about the edits.  First, I finished the overdue edits for Dragon Soldier.  I was a few days late getting them back, but it wasn't bad enough to cause any problems with the release.  I'm hoping the editor can save me, since I couldn't quite figure out the issue they wanted me to fix.  I made an honest attempt, but it still needs some help.  I'll let you know how it goes when the editor finishes the second round of edits and LT3 sends them back to me again.

  • As I was finishing up with Dragon Soldier, I started getting emails from LT3 with more edits.  First, the second round of edits for The Case of the Wandering Wolves appeared.  The edits look fairly straightforward.  I needed some clarification and advice in a few spots that the editor helped me with.  Once I get those spots smoothed out, this story will be awesome.

  • Next, the first round of edits for Elemental Ride appeared.  There was one big issue, but it was a fairly easy fix.  Aside from that, there wasn't really much else to do.  I fixed the issue, read through the story, and have already returned it to LT3 for a second round of edits.  The editor, I have to say, absolutely loved the story and I have to concur.  Elemental Ride is easily one of the favorite stories that I've written.

  • After that, LT3 informed me that the first round of edits for Ge-Me: Part One were complete.  However, the file was corrupted so they had to figure that out before sending them to me.  I'm hoping to receive them soon.

May goals: Results

6/6/2016

I'm running late on my goals this month.  Very late.  In my defense I'm in the process of moving and that's taking up a lot of my time.  Here's how I did in May:

  1. Be Prepared. I returned the copy edits for Dragon Dilemma and Dragon Detective to LT3.  I also returned the first round of edits for the Case of the Wandering Wolves.  I haven't received any additional edits.

  2. Writing.  Unlike the last few months, I was able to get some writing done.  The Case of the Hopping Hare, the second book in my Trickster's Eye series, is starting to take shape.  I've also been working on two possible (currently untitled) knight stories for LT3's Heart of Steal call, neither of which may actually be submitted for it, but it's fun to work on them.  I've also gotten some planning accomplished for Dragon Spy.

  • I think I forgot to mention that LT3 accepted Justified, the second book in my Magnified series.  It probably won't be released until 2018 at the earliest, but it's still extremely exciting to have this series moving along.  I don't have much at all planned for the third, and presumably final, book in the series.  I want to finish a few other books before I start delving into that one.  There's a lot of research and planning involved with the Magnified series and I would prefer to have fewer things on my to-do list before I start tackling something so involved.

  • The copy edits for Dragon Dilemma are back with LT3.  This book is good to go for release in just two weeks!

  • Have you seen the cover for the print compilation of Dragon Consultant, Dragon Deception, and Dragon Dilemma?  I've posted it a bunch of places, but check out my website to see more.  It's the same artist doing the rest of the series and I am again impressed by her amazing talent.  I'll do an official cover reveal this weekend.

  • I'm still working on the edits for The Case of the Wandering Wolves.  If you remember, I sent this story to two beta readers for some help fixing a few major issues.  The beta readers did a great job, but apparently I wasn't able to fix everything they pointed out.  The editor noticed my mistakes immediately, so it's back to figuring out how to fix this same issue.  It's not something I can just smooth over; I need to figure out how to rework a few sections so the issue vanishes entirely, but I'm struggling to figure out how to manage that without the story falling apart entirely.  Hopefully I can get it worked out before the edits are due, but I have a feeling I'm going to have to send it back to the editor begging for advice.

News: Another Week Gone By

  • I don't have much to say this week.  I'm still working away on the edits for The Case of the Wandering Wolves.  They're going smoothly so far.  I haven't been able to get any writing done yet, but things are slowing down a good bit.  I might have a few evenings to myself where writing could be a possibility.

  • This weekend is all about finding an apartment in my new city.  I've done the research, so today I've been touring and seeing which one fits with what I'm looking for.  I should be putting money down on an apartment by Sunday, so it's an exiting moment for me.  I haven't gone apartment hunting since I lived in Israel, and doing it in America is a completely different experience.  Hopefully it goes well and I'll be ready to move in when my training finishes.

  • Dragon Dilemma comes out in less than a month!  It hit me this morning that we're getting close to the release date.  I need to set up a giveaway of some kind, so keep an eye out.  Until then, feel free to pre-order it here: https://lessthanthreepress.com/books...

May Goals

5/1/2016

Right now I don't have any plans for May.  My training still takes precedence, but it comes to an end in four short weeks.  It's possible I might have more energy in the evenings as the lessons get more focused and less free-time consuming.  If that does happen I may be able to get some writing done.  I've tailored my goals to reflect that, but--like last month--I don't expect much.

  1. Be Prepared.  I might receive any number of fun things from LT3 about my many different stories this month.  I received the first round of edits for The Case of the Wandering Wolves this morning.  My goal is to tackle those edits and anything else that appears in May.

  2. Writing.  As I said above, this is more of a wish than a goal.  Maybe this month will let me write, but I can't say so with any certainty.

News: Release Date and More Good News

4/16/2016

4/16/16
  • Magnified now has a release date: September 7, 2016.  That's not too far away!  LT3 and I have started talking about the cover and since the editing is complete Magnified will definitely be ready to go on time.  I know I've said before how excited I am for this book to come out and now with a release date my excitement is growing even more.

  • The next big thing I've learned is LT3 is going ahead with a compilation print version containing Dragon Consultant, Dragon Deception, and Dragon Dilemma.  We started talking about the cover, which is going to be awesome.  I think this print book will be released along with Dragon Dilemma in June, so make sure to look for it then.

  • I've also spoken with LT3 about starting the cover for Dragon Detective, book four of my Supernatural Consultant series.  I don't have an official release date yet, but my best guess might be this December or next January.  It depends on whether Ner Li, my story for LT3's Sharing the Season call, bumps Detective's release date back a few months.

  • I haven't heard anything about any of my other stories.  The Case of the Wandering Wolves is next on my list of submissions, so I'm hoping the first round of edits come for that soon.  Although, given that TCotWW won't be released until at least ten months from now I'm probably getting way ahead of myself.  I might see the edits for Ner Li or Elemental Ride first.  I'm also waiting on copy edits for Dragon Dilemma.  I don't expect to hear yes or no about whether LT3 accepted Justified for a while, but that is another item I'm waiting to hear about.  I'll be sure to let everyone know once I hear about any of my stories.

News: Accepted Submission

12/14/2015

12/14/15
  • The Case of the Wandering Wolves was accepted by LT3.  Sort of...  I submitted it as part of their Private Dicks call and LT3 instead asked to take it as a stand-alone.  This is the second time this has happened to me and I am happy with the idea.  The first was The Oracle's Flame, so you know how amazingly well it ended up turning out.  TCotWW was always supposed to be part of a series.  I could never manage to get the stories off the ground, which is why I turned towards submitting to an anthology call instead.  Having TCotWW be released as a stand-alone will hopefully give me the incentive to continue working on the series.  I have some good ideas for Case Two, so once I find some time in my writing schedule I'll get to working on it.

  • I have written a lot for Justified this past week.  I'm almost at 30k words, which is the halfway point in the story.  I'm also past the gloomy bits and now need to start working my way up to the finale.  I don't yet know whether this will be a two or three book series.  It honestly depends on whether the bad guy ends up being vanquished in this book, or whether my characters need a third story to win the war.  I am really enjoying writing this series, so I am leaning towards a book three, and I've now reached the spot in my story to begin setting up for it.  I guess we'll all have to see how this plays out.

  • I'm still editing Dragon Dilemma.  I just need to finish with the final read through, which I hope to have completed today.  Once I send it back I'll ask for information about the release date.  If I'm remembering correctly, the next story I submitted was Magnified, so I should get those edits soon.  I'm really looking forward to seeing what an editor has to say.  Before that, however, I need to get the beta reader's edits for Elemental Ride completed so that story is ready to submit by the due date.  There's lots to do, so I had better stop writing this and instead return to my to-do list.

News: Where My Stories Are Now

11/13/2015

11/13/15
  • Elemental Ride is complete.  I've given it a last read through and sent it on to a beta reader.  I expect to have it back in a month or so, at which point I'll get it ready to submit to LT3's Roughhouse Raiders call.

  • Dragon Dilemma has been returned to LT3 and should be with the editor for round two of the editing process.  I also expect to see this story again in a month or so.  Once the second round of edits is complete, I'll start asking LT3 about potential release dates.

  • I have not yet heard any news about The Case of the Wandering Wolves.  No news is good news at this point, but I hope to hear yea or nay for its inclusion in LT3's Private Dicks call soon.

  • I have also been writing this month.  I started working on Dragon Soldier again, book five in my Supernatural Consultant series.  It's at a difficult spot where all the character building I've been doing needs to switch over to plot building and action sequences.  I'm having some difficulties figuring out how to do that.  There's only 10k words left to write, which isn't too much, but until I get over this hump the story will be slow going.

  • Kelpie Blue has also demanded I work on it, but the story is  stuck with the same exact issue.  All the character and setting building I've done for the first 30k words is a good start, but now it's time to transition over to solely plot for the next 30k.  I think I've finally figured out how to finagle that, but it's still difficult to get it correctly onto paper.  If I can get past the transition scene and back into the meat of the story this month I'll be very happy.

  • The last story I've been working on is my Hanukkah one that I'm planning to submit to LT3's Sharing the Season's call.  It's turning into a cute secret admirer trope and is fun to write.  The plan is to have it completed as soon as I can so I have plenty of time to edit before the deadline.  It is possible to finish it this month, since there's only 8k words left to write, but I first have to find the time amid everything else I'm working on.
