News: Release Dates and Writing

2/22/2014

2/22/14
  • I have an official release date for Road to Home!  July 2, 2014.  That's almost exactly a year since Road to Revenge came out.  The date is contingent on how well the editing and formatting for publishing process goes, of course, but I'm super excited anyway.  I'll keep you updated on Road to Home's progress as the release date quickly gets closer!

  • The Oracle's Hatchling is available for pre-order at LT3!  If you buy it now you'll get a 15% discount.  It's also up for a giveaway in LT3's March Giveaways section.  Make sure you take advantage of these great opportunities before Hatchling comes out on March 5th!

  • I'm still working hard on my Out of Underhill series.  I currently have three chapters of Kelpie Blue planned out and I thought you might enjoy seeing the tentative chapter headings:
    1) Blue and Stealing the Diary.  And Eating Yummy Cucumbers.  2) Brin Gets a Job.  Blue Gets Bored.  3) Can Blue Run?  …and not eat the other horses in the race?
As you can tell, I'm having a lot of fun with Blue.  In a way he's a more mature version of Tori, my child-like dragon from Stealing the Dragon.  Blue is his own unique character, of course, but he likes to have fun in much the same way Tori does.  It's so interesting working with creatures who might look human, but because they very much aren't can behave in ways none of my other characters can.  Tori can play with his rubies and Blue can--actually I don't want to give it away.  You'll have to wait for Kelpie Blue to come out first!  ;p

News: February Plans

  • January was a pretty good month in terms of writing!  I finished writing Road to Home and now it's somewhere in LT3's editing queue.  Heartbeat was also accepted for their Satisfaction Guaranteed anthology.  I've finished the edits for The Oracle's Hatchling, due out in March, and Heart's Tournament, due out in May.

Magnified has exploded in terms of size and depth this past month, with no signs of slowing down any time soon.  I've also started work on a new paranormal fantasy about fae and singing called If A Butterfly Don't Fly.

  • My goals in February are simple enough: write a lot!  I would like to finish Magnified and The Oracle's Golem.  I would also love to finish all the research I need for Butterfly and Kelpie Blue.  At some point I would also like to get my Trickster's Eye series going, but that's on the bottom of my to-do list.

February also has some exciting releases to keep an eye out for!  Rocking Hard Volume 2 is already available for pre-order.  If you buy it now you can get 15% off.  It arrives in stores on February 12.  Paint, Guns, Money, & Love will begin running in LT3's weekly serial section on February 12.  If you have a serial subscription be sure to check it out!  On February 15 Finding the Wolf will come out in audiobook, which is amazing.  I'm really looking forward to hearing the finished product.  As always I will post more February news as I learn it!

  • I'm guessing no news is good news, when it comes to submissions.  I've never worked with DSP before, so I don't know how long it will take them to get back to me.  LT3 is currently going on a journey and I'm not expecting any word from them until they return. Hopefully they're busy putting together a contract instead of a rejection letter.  Am I being too impatient?

  • I'm sure you've all seen the cover for The Oracle's Hatchling, since I posted it everywhere.  It's beautiful!  In case you missed it, click here.  The edits for Hatchling are back with LT3 and heading towards the next step in the publishing process.  I don't foresee any issues having the story ready to go by March 5th.  Keep an eye out for it to go on pre-order soon!

  • I have heard the demos for The Dragon's Hoard Audiobook.  It was kind of surreal (but also totally awesome) hearing someone give voice to the characters inside my head.  For some reason all of my characters were given British accents, which was a surprise to me.  Did anyone else have British voices in their heads while reading Finding the Wolf?  I am so excited to hear how it turns out.

  • It's been a busy time on the writing front.  Job number three ended, so I've suddenly got a ton more time and energy to write, which is lovely.  Magnified is still going well, but I'm at a delicate point where all the foreshadowing is coming to a head.  If I don't get it right the entire story may flop, so it's slow going with much rewriting.  Road to Home is picking up again and it is going to be amazing.  I almost can't write it fast enough to keep up with the ideas in my head!  I have also begun work on a new story tentatively titled If a Butterfly Don't Fly.  It's got a music theme, but I'll be throwing in some fae at some point.  I'll put together a work summary for you guys sometime next week.

  • The New Year has come and it has brought lots of snow with it.  I am quickly getting snowed in, but it looks like just the right kind of snow to make snowmen.  Fun will be had.

  • I have two fun things to share in regards to The Oracle Series.  The first is that the edits for The Oracle's Hatchling are sitting on my desktop.  They seem to be pretty straightforward--no major re-writes like in the first book--so Hatchling should be ready to go on time!  I have also seen the first draft of the cover and it is beautiful!  The amazing artist is doing a quick color change and then I should have it up and ready for you to see too.

  • On the writing front my muses have taken control and won't let go.  I wanted to get a large chunk of The Oracle's Golem finished this past weekend, but every time I tried my muses said "what if you do this or change that in Magnified?" and I got yanked away.  The bottom line appears to be that until I finish writing Magnified I won't get anything else done.  Of course, the issue is that I don't quite know how I want Magnified to end.  Until I figure out that important bit, I'm left floundering on how to tie the major plot twists together so it turns into a cohesive book.  I think I'm going to set my muses a deadline of January 31st and if Magnified isn't completely written by then I'm going to force them to move on to something else.  Wish me luck!

  • No word on either of my submissions just yet, but publishing companies deserve a few days off on the New Year's too.  I also don't yet know how Hadash Aviv did in the M/M Romance poll.  I'm sure I'll hear soon.  I just hope it's all good news.

News: Writing and Happy Holidays!

12/26/2013

12/26/13
  • The holiday season is ending.  I hope everyone who celebrates had a lovely Christmas and that everyone who doesn't celebrate, like me, enjoyed their day off from work.  I saw Frozen and American Hustle this past week, so I've been spending my time wisely.  Okay, I've also written a lot too.  The third section in Magnified is quickly drawing to a close, which is good because the fourth section is where all the fun starts to happen.  I'm looking forward to sitting down and planning it all out.
Ge-Mi is also starting to take shape, and I don't mean just on paper.  I'm still slogging through all the tough introductory stuff that happens whenever I create a new world I need to build around the character, but the foundation is really starting to form.  The next step is the very beginning of the romance.  The non-paper/writing development is the title.  I have a beautiful vision of two separate covers, which means there somehow must be two different books.  Therefore, the series must be called Ge-Mi (or Genetic Mutation) and book one must be called A Kitten's Claws.  I honestly have no idea what plot idea there is for a second book, but I'm going to try!

  • The next big holiday is New Years.  I always go to First Night with my family, which is amazing fun.  This year I have two big things to look forward to.  First, my third, seasonal job will be ending which means less money in my bank account, but more time for writing and other fun things.  Second, the submission dates for LT3's Satisfaction Guaranteed and DSP's Juicy Bits are coming due.  That means I'll soon hear yes or no for the stories I've submitted to each.  It really is so very exciting!

  • My last bit of news is the cover for Wings of the Stars is finalized.  It's to the right, so please have a look.  I know the artist and LT3 worked very hard on it.  Hopefully I'll soon have the cover for The Oracle's Hatchling to show off too!

News: Giveaway, Writing, Release Dates, and Voting

  • The Red Sox win again!  Yay!  Only two more wins to go.  To celebrate when they win the World Series, I'll be holding a giveaway on twitter.  I'll be offering one electronic copy of my vampire short story Bloody Kiss, which is set in Boston, to one lucky twitter follower.  After the final game has finished and the trophy begins its journey back to Boston, stop by and tweet hello!

  • In other news, I am officially halfway through writing Road to Home, the sequel to Road to Revenge.  My final goal for the story is 40k words and I just reached 20k.  I wrote a lovely romance scene under the auspices of the sphinx and now it's time for the dark twist.  I have to gear up for it, because it's going to be a tough bit of writing.  I'm looking forward to the challenge.

  • I also have some release dates to share!  Nothing is officially official yet.  In fact, it's pretty vague.  Still, it's more than I had before!  Here's what I know: The Oracle's Hatchling will arrive in early March 2014.  Heart's Tournament is scheduled for May 2014.  Wings of the Stars will arrive sometime in late summer or early fall 2014.  I'll continue to keep you updated as I learn more!

  • There's still time to vote for the cover of The Dragon's Hoard at the Rainbow Awards cover contest.  It will definitely need more votes to get into round four, so please head on over.  Thanks!

  • The Dragon's Hoard made it to round three of the Rainbow Awards cover contest!  I can't believe it, but then I did have an amazing cover artist.  Please go vote for your favorite cover here: http://elisa-rolle.livejournal.com/2419818.html

  • I have written almost 8k words in Road to Home so far this week.  That means I'm almost halfway through with the story!  It really is turning out to be just as awesome as book one, Road to Revenge, which is very exciting.  My next big scene to write is a bit of sweet romance at the pyramids.  I'm looking forward to the challenge.

  • I'm still waiting for more information about release dates for The Oracle's Hatchling and Wings of the Stars.  The call for Heart's Tournament closes at the end of the month, so I expect to start hearing news about that soon too.  I'm kind of shocked when I see how many stories I already have lined up to release in 2014, but it's also very awesome at the same time.

News: Submissions and Editing

  • The Oracle's Hatchling has been accepted by LT3!  The contract is in the mail, so once that's situated we'll start talking about release dates and all the other fun stuff.  This series is really taking off!

  • Magnified was not accepted, which I had kind of expected to happen.  It's an odd story with a backhanded romance that didn't quite fit in with LT3.  So now I have to decide if I want to submit with a different publisher, self-publish, or if I want to rework the story so LT3 will like it.  I do have a fledgling idea for a sort of part two, so maybe I'll see if that pans into anything before making a final decision.

  • The edits for Paint, Guns, Money, & Love are done and back with LT3.  It's all ready to go for serial publication from my end!  I'm very excited to have my first serial story published; it's going to be difficult to wait until February.

  • The edits for Wings of the Stars are also completed and back with LT3.  It's way ahead of schedule.  I don't have any idea of release dates or covers yet. I'm excited to learn more!

  • The Oracle's Hatchling is done and submitted!  My goal was to have it completely written before the first book in the series arrived in stores next month and I did it!  I'll keep everyone up to date as information on my new book unfolds.  My next project in the series is book three, The Oracle's Golem, which is turning out nicely so far.

  • The second round of edits for Paint, Guns, Money, and Love are sitting in my inbox, waiting for me.  Now that Hatchling is done I'll devote all of my attention to fixing PGM&L up for serial publication this February.

  • Bloody Kiss will only be available for pre-order for a couple more days.  Get your 15% discount today!  Don't forget to check out all the other wonderful vampire stories too.
