January Goals: Results

1/31/2016

My goals in January were derailed slightly by all the editing I instead got completed.  I would still call this month a success, just not with what I was expecting.  Here's how I did:
  1. Editing.  The two items originally on this list were Elemental Ride and Magnified and I'm happy to say that I was able to complete them both.  Elemental Ride has been submitted to LT3 and Magnified is back with the editor for round two.  In addition to those stories I also got the copy edits for Dragon Deception and the first round of edits for Dragon Detective.  The former I was able to send back to LT3 and the latter still needs a bit more work.

  2. Submissions.  I was also very successful with this.  Elemental Ride was submitted yesterday evening and I was able to get my Hanukkah story, Ner Li, and Ge-Mi: Part One properly formatted and submitted.  I hope to hear from LT3 soon.  I was not able to get any work done with editing Justified.

  3. Writing.  Luckily I left this goal open ended because writing ended up not being a high priority this month.  I got a lot done in my Coliseum story and some drips and drabs in Dragon Soldier and Dragon Spy, but nothing really came together writing-wise this month.  I'm really hoping next month is much more productive as there are a number of stories I would like to complete.

News: Submissions and Editing

  • I finished all the edits for Magnified and needed to let it sit for a day before I could begin a final read-through.  While I was waiting, I decided to take a look at two of my stories that are complete, but needed their own final editing check before I could submit them.  Ner Li and Ge-Mi: Part One had both been waiting for about a month, so it was time to go through them.  I liked what I read, made some quick changes, and ended up finishing them both.  They have been submitted to LT3.  I know I won't hear about Ner Li for months as I submitted it well before the due date for the Sharing the Seasons call it's for, but I hope to hear about Ge-Mi: Part One soon.

  • With those stories out of the way, that only leaves three big things on my to-do list.  First, of course, I went back to Magnified.  I finished the final read through and returned it to LT3.  I should see the second round of edits sometime next month, after which we'll begin talking about release dates, covers, and everything else.  I am so excited to see this story getting closer to being published.

  • Next on my list is Elemental Ride.  There's a lot to do and not a lot of time to do it in.  I'm really worried I won't make the deadline, but I'm going to work hard on it for the next few days and see whether I can do it.  If not, I'll submit it as a stand alone when I do get it completed.

  • Last on my big to-do list is getting Justified ready for submission.  I haven't given it a first edit yet, which I would like to try doing this month.  It needs a few thousand more words and some descriptions added, plus some plot smoothing.  I'm hoping to have it totally ready to submit next month.

News: I'm Still Alive

  • I have no idea where January's gone.  I looked at the date today and realized that it's halfway through the month and I haven't written one blog posting, which isn't like me.  Keeping my readers updated on my writing and my books is important to me and I'm clearly failing this month.  I apologize.

  • There is an official release date for Dragon Dilemma, book three in my Supernatural Consultant series.  June 1, 2016.  It should be available for preorder within a few months as the editing is complete.  I'm also hoping to see the cover about the same time.

  • Dragon Consultant's sales are through the roof.  Everyone seems to be really enjoying it and are excited to read Dragon Deception when it comes out next month.  The feedback I've been receiving has been amazingly positive and I'm so happy to know people love my dragons as much as I do.  Make sure to preorder Dragon Deception before February 10, 2016 to get a 15% discount.

  • I am almost done with the first round of edits for Magnified.  I just have a final read through to do, which includes seeing if I fixed one of the big issues the editor pointed out.  It's going to take me right up to the deadline, but I should be able to get it back to LT3 on time.  Unfortunately, all the work I've had to do for Magnified has taken away from the rest of my to-do list.  I need to get the beta reader's edits completed for Elemental Ride asap so I don't miss that due date.  I wouldn't mind if it was released as a stand alone story, but I wrote it for the call and therefore want to submit it there first.  I'll have ten days to see if I can get it done once Magnified has been returned.  Wish me luck!

  • Since I'm working on Magnified right now, I'm also hoping to use that momentum to give Justified an edit.  I need to add some descriptions and smooth out the plot in a few places before I can start getting it ready for submission.

  • I've finally come up with a title for my Hanukkah story: Ner Li.  It means I have a Candle and I think it fits nicely with the story.  Thank you to everyone for your support in helping me figure out a title.  I have gone ahead and submitted it to LT3.  I know it's early, but if it sits on my computer for much longer I'll start mucking with it until I accidentally destroy it.  I really hope LT3 likes it.
