Giveaway: Dragon Consultant

Dragon Consultant is the first book in my new Supernatural Consultant series. It comes out on December 9th and I am unbelievably excited. I enjoyed working with the characters in the story so much it blossomed into a ten book series. I've been talking about Dragon Consultant and the rest of the series a ton over the last few months and my readers can finally read it and learn why I'm so happy.

To celebrate, I'm holding a giveaway. Three people will receive an e-copy in their preferred format. All you have to do to enter is leave a comment telling me your favorite thing about dragons: the mythology, the power, a favorite book you've read with dragons in it, etc. I want to know what makes dragons awesome for you too.

As far as writing goes, I had a bit of a breakthrough with Kelpie Blue. I figured out the next little bit of the plot, which will hopefully mean the story will keep growing from there. I'm just about done writing the transition scene I was stuck on. I really, really want at least one of the two books in this series completed this year, which means I need to get back to writing now.
I am currently feeling stuck on Dragon Soldier and I'm not entirely certain why. I have a general idea of what needs to happen, but so far the book has stubbornly stayed away from letting any of what needs to happen form. I only have 10k words left to write, yet haven't been able to start putting together the build up to the climax. I'm starting to wonder if this book will end up being closer to 40k words in total, which would be fine, but it's a little annoying to have control ripped from me so thoroughly. Until I figure out how to edit the story to get it back on track or how to smoothly transition from where I left off immediately into the build up, Soldier will have to remain incomplete. This is another story I should have finished by the end of the year, but we'll see how it goes.

News: Making Progress

There's two fun announcements I have to mention first. The Oracle's Sprite is up for giveaway in a bunch of different places: HeartsonFire, LT3, and I are all offering one copy to a lucky commenter. I also have a tentative release date for Dragon Deception: February 10, 2016. The story is finished with the editing process--unless the copy editor sees something--which means that date should be accurate.
On to the progress I've made over the last week. Both Dragon Consultant and Dragon Deception are back with LT3 after I finished with their edits. I made a mental health decision to hold off returning to the edits for The Case of the Wandering Wolves for a few short days; too much editing at one time fries my brain. Instead I decided to work on one of my stories. For some reason, Dragon Spy jumped to the front. I know, I haven't finished writing Dragon Soldier, the previous book in the series, but I figured out the main plot line for Spy and wanted to start working on it. It looks like Spy will be the sixth book in the series. I'm not entirely certain I'm happy about that because there is a large time jump between book five and book six, but at the same time I think that's how the story needs to flow. Soldier is the end of arc one, Spy is the start of arc two. Squeezing a book in between there to try to soften the sudden jump feels awkward right now. Of course, given the way this series has a habit of suddenly tossing new ideas my way it might be premature to state that.
After I wrote about 3k words in Dragon Spy I returned to working on the The Case of the Wandering Wolves. The beta readers didn't hold back their punches, which is wonderful, but it means there is a ton of work that I have to get done. I'm honestly only ten pages in and that's without major procrastination distracting me. There is so much to fix, most of it requiring rewriting, and it's unbelievably time consuming. I'm going to keep plodding along and hope I'm able to finish on time.
I have also been working on Justified. This story is very convoluted. I'm just over 20k words in and I haven't even gotten to the main plot. I've given plenty of clues, of course, but I don't want to give anything away just yet. I want to finish writing the build up soon so I can really get into the fun bits.

news: Birthday and Edits

My birthday is today! I'm having a good one so far. Don't forget to enter the giveaway I'm holding. There's just a few more days left.
The edits for Dragon Deception arrived in my inbox late last night. I would have posted about it on twitter immediately, but the internet went down a few minutes after I downloaded the document. I wasn't expecting to see Deception for a few more months since Dragon Consultant, the first book in the series, barely has a release date. I am hoping this means Deception will have a first quarter 2016 release date. I will let you all know the second I learn more.
Of course, my summer job starts this Friday. Six days a week, full time hours, and zero free time for writing. My second thought after being excited over seeing the edits had arrived was whether I could get them back to LT3 by Thursday night. That's really fast for an editing round, but I'm worried if I don't return them before the job starts, I'll miss the due date entirely. Luckily I've since glanced through the editor's comments. She loved the story, can't wait to get her hands on book three, and didn't have a single big content change. The edits are mostly quick tweaks, grammar issues, and other minor fixes. I definitely think I can have it back to LT3 by Thursday.

Birthday Stuff, Writing, and Work

My birthday is tomorrow! It should be a ton of fun. Don't forget to enter the giveaway I'm holding. There's just a few more days left.
I have reached the halfway point in Dragon Soldier. My character is currently feeling very sorry for himself, boohoo, and now I have to build him back up to fighting form before the big battle. It should be interesting.
Of course, I don't know how much more I'll be able to write this month. My summer job is hanging over me like a heavy cloud of doom. My birthday is fun, but at the same time the job starts on Friday. I have been trying to repress the fact that it's only five days away by ignoring what the calendar is telling me, but resistance is futile. I'll get as much writing done as possible beforehand and then I'll be back in September.
In case you're wondering, my new car is on order. I'm first on the dealer's list for deliveries so it should only be another week or two before it comes in.

I have finished writing The Case of the Wandering Wolves and have sent it off to a beta reader. I really like how it turned out. It does need some tweaking to be perfect, but that's why I'm working with a beta reader. My coyote shifter detective story will be ready to submit to LT3's Private Dicks call in time.
The romance in Dragon Soldier has really started to take shape. Next the story has to return to the fighting part of the plot. Some time needs to pass in the story before that's possible and I'm trying to decide if I should put in a break, add a paragraph about time passing, or both. I've almost reached the halfway point in the story. There's still a lot to write, but I'm very happy with the progress so far.
Next on my to-do list are Justified and The Oracle's Current. I'm hoping to get more done in both stories over the next week. There's a ton to work on in Justified. I'm still setting up the plot, which is hard going, but I can see that this story is going to be a ton of fun to put together. Current is all planned out so at this point it's really just about getting it properly onto paper. I hope to have Current completed in 2015.
