  • Ge-Mi: Part One is available for pre-order at LT3.  Thanks to LT3's massive holiday sale, you can get it now for 28% off.  Ge-Mi comes out on February 8, 2017.  https://lessthanthreepress.com/books...

  • Dragon Soldier, book five in my Supernatural Consultant series, is also available for pre-order for a 28% discount.  This book doesn't come out until March 8, 2017 (more on the new date in my next blog post), so there's still a while, but I know you're as excited for release day as I am.

Cover Reveal: Dragon Soldier

Dragon Soldier is the second half of Nickel's story that began in Dragon Detective and it also concludes the first arc of the series.  I had some second thoughts when I was thinking about what to do for the cover for Dragon Soldier.  The story is about Nickel and Platinum, yet every time I reread the book one of my favorite scenes was one where Chrome and 'Ron knock down a tree in Dane's backyard.  I liked the scene and the idea for the cover so much--and I know I won't be writing a book with Chrome and 'Ron as the main characters--that highlighting them here just worked for me.  Let me know what you think!

Dragon Soldier comes out on April 5, 2017.  I'll let you know when it becomes available for pre-order.  Be sure to read Dragon Detective first, which is available right now.
Picture
The aftermath of the last battle has left Nickel weak in bed and grounded for the next decade.  Despite being in trouble, Nickel wants to return to the battle against the enemy as soon as he can, but thoughts of Platinum, the dragon helping to nurse him back to health, keep distracting him.

Platinum can't believe how much his life has changed.  He went from being a lonely fugitive on the run to part of a family in only hours.  The last few days have been his happiest, especially now that he's met Nickel.  He knows it's only temporary, though.  The enemy that kept him captive for most of his life isn't finished with him yet, but even Platinum and Nickel's combined powers might not be enough to save them all.

Despite my needing to take some time off from writing, things continue to progress with all my stories.  Here's an update on how things are going:
  • Magnified was released on September 7th and so far has been getting great reviews.  Thank you to everyone that purchased a copy.  I really hope you enjoyed it!

  • Cinder-Elle, my fairytale short story from Fairytales Slashed Volume 4, is out of print.  I have some plans for this story, so look for it to appear on my to-do list again.

  • Speaking of stories going out of print soon, Cleanly Wrong, my story from the Bestiary collection will be going out of print at the end of September.  I'm hoping to polish and resubmit this story, but it may be a while before I can get my act together and make that happen.  Bloody Kiss, my story from the Proud to be a Vampire collection and Jack O'Lantern's Grin, my story from the Halloween Rentboy's collection will both be going out of print in October.  Bloody Kiss might return as part of a larger series, but don't hold me to that.  Jack O'Lantern's Grin will not be returning, so get your copies before they're gone.

  • I have also been getting a lot of editing accomplished.  The first round of edits for Ner Li and Ge-Mi: Part One and the second round for The Case of the Wandering Wolves and Dragon Soldier are back with LT3, as well as a final proof read for Dragon Detective (out on October 19th).  I have the second pass of edits for Elemental Ride sitting in my inbox that I will start working on soon.

News: Lots of Edits

7/8/2016

7/8/16
  • This past week has been all about the edits.  First, I finished the overdue edits for Dragon Soldier.  I was a few days late getting them back, but it wasn't bad enough to cause any problems with the release.  I'm hoping the editor can save me, since I couldn't quite figure out the issue they wanted me to fix.  I made an honest attempt, but it still needs some help.  I'll let you know how it goes when the editor finishes the second round of edits and LT3 sends them back to me again.

  • As I was finishing up with Dragon Soldier, I started getting emails from LT3 with more edits.  First, the second round of edits for The Case of the Wandering Wolves appeared.  The edits look fairly straightforward.  I needed some clarification and advice in a few spots that the editor helped me with.  Once I get those spots smoothed out, this story will be awesome.

  • Next, the first round of edits for Elemental Ride appeared.  There was one big issue, but it was a fairly easy fix.  Aside from that, there wasn't really much else to do.  I fixed the issue, read through the story, and have already returned it to LT3 for a second round of edits.  The editor, I have to say, absolutely loved the story and I have to concur.  Elemental Ride is easily one of the favorite stories that I've written.

  • After that, LT3 informed me that the first round of edits for Ge-Me: Part One were complete.  However, the file was corrupted so they had to figure that out before sending them to me.  I'm hoping to receive them soon.

June Goals: Results

6/30/2016

June was a difficult month.  I finished training, moved, and started at my new job.  It was stressful, exhausting, and very time consuming.  All things writing got pushed aside because my real life was far too hectic.  I did manage to get some things done, though.

  1. Be Prepared.  I returned the copy edits for Magnified to LT3 and made a lot of progress on the edits for Dragon Soldier.  There's still more work to do in Soldier, but I don't think I did too badly.

  2. Writing.  Surprisingly I was able to get some writing completed.  Almost 2k words in book three of my Magnified series.  It's a good place to grow from and is indicative that the planning and research I've been working on is heading in the right direction.  There's still a lot to do in this story, but I'm very happy with it so far.  Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get anything completed in any of my other stories, but I have high hopes for next month.

News: New Developments

  • Magnified is up for pre-order!  It is the longest and most intricate story I've ever written.  Vampires and werewolves, a touch of magic, and a bit of intrigue.  I loved writing this story and am extremely excited for it to come out.  September 7th is the big day, so make sure to get your copy now: https://lessthanthreepress.com/books...  The best part is LT3 is having a massive sale in June for a few more days, so right now you can get it for 32% off instead of the usual 15% discount for pre-orders.

  • LT3 and I have been going over future release dates for some of my upcoming stories.  We already knew Magnified was slotted for September 7th.  We then moved Dragon Detective a week earlier to October 12th.  Why did we move Detective a touch earlier?  Because Elemental Ride, my story for LT3's Roughhouse Raiders call, is coming out on November 9th.  Then, Ner Li, my story in LT3's Sharing the Seasons call, will come out soon after on December 14th.  That's four stories right on top of each other.  Admittedly, the latter two are fairly short, but that's still a lot to squeeze into such a short time-frame.

  • But wait.  There's more!  2017 also has a lot of stories to look forward to.  Ge-Mi: Part One, will come out at the end of January.  Dragon Soldier will follow in March.  The Case of the Wandering Wolves, book one in my Trickster's Eye series, will come out sometime in late April or early May.  Dragon Adventure would be next, estimated to arrive at the end of June or early July.  Then, Justified is looking at September and Dragon Home sometime after that.  Everything I've outlined in this paragraph is a very rough estimation and subject to change based on editing and LT3's scheduling needs, but it's a good plan to start with.

  • I've been working on the edits for Dragon Soldier and I'm almost done.  There's one more thing I have to do before I give it a final read through, but unfortunately it's the biggest item on the to-do list.  I need to add one or two new scenes to up the romance, which means figuring out where to slot them in and how to keep the flow steady.  I'm hoping to have it done soon.

News: What I'm Up To

  • It's been a while since I've posted anything, so I thought I should pop my head up to say hello.  I'm completely moved in to my new apartment, which took a while.  It's a nice place, but it always takes a few months for me to really settle in so I'm still adjusting.  I'm also still getting used to my new job.  The morning commute is 45 minutes, which is awful, but the office is moving locations in a few months and my commute will be cut in half.  When that happens I'll be able to get a little more sleep and I'll hopefully therefore have a little more energy in the evenings to do stuff.  I need to get out and explore my new home and I need to find some time to write, but at the moment I'm too exhausted for either.

  • I have been sent two sets of edits, which is taking up what little writing energy I currently have.  I received the edits for Dragon Soldier and have been working my way through them.  Overall they're fairly straightforward, but the editor wants me to add in a few short scenes so there's still a lot to do.  I also received the copy edits for Magnified, which I'm reading through.  Magnified is in great shape and I'm really looking forward to it coming out on September 7, 2016.

  • Nothing much is happening on the writing front, unfortunately.  Not only don't I have the time or energy to write, but I'm finding it difficult to put words to paper.  I have no idea what the problem is, but writer's block really sucks and I'm hoping it moves along really soon.

News: So Many exciting Things

4/9/2016

4/9/16
  • The most exciting thing that happened to me this week is I found out where I'm going to be sent after my training is completed.  I won't say where online, but I'm very happy with it.  Of course, this means I need to find a new place to live and finagle all the other moving details.  There's two months left of my training, so that's my time-schedule to get everything done.  I still have to get through a number of big tests first, though, including another doozy on Monday, but there's so much to look forward to that I can't help being eager about my future.

  • The next bit of exciting news is the fact that I have finally returned the second round of edits for Dragon Detective to LT3.  That's the last big step to take before Detective really starts hurtling down the path towards publishing.  I'm hoping to see a 2016 release date for it, but there hasn't been any word yet.

  • The last bit of exciting news also had me jumping for joy.  LT3 accepted four of my submissions!  The next three books in my Supernatural Consultant Series--Dragon Soldier, Dragon Adventure, and Dragon Home--are a go!  Additionally, my Hanukkah-themed short story, Ner Li (I Have a Candle), was also accepted to LT3's Sharing the Season call.  I'm assuming a December 2016 release date for it, but I'll try not to count my chickens too soon.

February Goals: Results

2/29/2016

I didn't do too badly in February.  I got a little off track with writing some new stuff, but overall I think I got a lot done.  Here's how I did:
  1. Editing. The first round of edits for Dragon Detective was returned to LT3.  I received the second round of edits for Magnified too late in the month to finish by today, but I will have them done soon.

  2. Supernatural Consultant.  Dragon Soldier is complete and I've submitted it to LT3.  Dragon Adventure and Dragon Home have both been submitted to LT3 as well.  I hope to hear whether they like them soon.  I've also poked at Dragon Spy at bit and it's coming along nicely.  Alloy's first book also has a large chunk of planning completed, but I won't start writing it until Lumie's story is complete, which might require multiple books.

  3. Justified.  I have completely edited and formatted Justified and I'm really happy with it.  I'm in a bit of a conundrum about whether to submit it and could use some advice.

  4. Writing.  I did a lot of writing this month, although not exactly in the stories I had hoped to focus on.  My Coliseum story is starting to come along and I've resurrected an old story about an incubus called Ink.  Both are very interesting to write, and I didn't mind working on them, but I would have preferred to focus on my works in progress instead of starting something new.  Still, I can't complain about writing no matter what the story.

News: Story Submissions

2/27/2016

2/27/16
  • I have lots of good news to share.  First, and most exciting, is the fact that LT3 accepted my story Elemental Ride.  It will be published as part of the Roughhouse Raiders collection, which means it will be sold as a stand alone e-book in conjunction with many other wonderful authors' books set in the same urban fantasy bikers theme.  I don't have any idea about release dates, but I'm looking forward to finding out and I'll be certain to let you know the moment I learn more.

  • I have also gotten the second round of edits for Magnified.  There's a lot to do, although it's mostly small fixes that are cumulatively going to take quite a bit of time to finish.  I'm going to try to get it back to LT3 soon, because once I do we'll have reached the stage where I can start asking about potential release dates.  I am very excited to have this book move even a step closer to being published.

  • My Supernatural Consultant Series is officially expanding.  I have submitted Dragon Soldier, book five, as well as the two short stories in the series, Dragon Adventure and Dragon Home.  I hope LT3 likes them.  Should LT3 accept them, I don't think you'll see any of these books published until 2017 at the very earliest, but I like being so far ahead.  I am starting a full time job next month and therefore will most likely not have much time available for writing.  I might have to take two years off from writing itself, but with my stories continuing to come out periodically I know you won't forget about me.

  • There are two other things on my to-do list right now.  I would like to continue working on my Supernatural Consultant Series and see about getting Dragon Spy going.  Justified is also patiently waiting for me to get to work on editing it so I can get it ready for submission.  I doubt I'll get either done before the new job starts, but I'm going to work hard for the rest of my free time and see what comes of it.
